Grubs...Grubs...nasty Grubs.
Posted by John Penton on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 at 4:14pm.This is the time of year when many of you are spending time in the lawn, landscape, and garden digging around in the soil. Inevitably you will likely run across white grubs. If you've never seen a white grub you likely will find yourself asking the following questions:
What are these little nasty white creatures?
Will they harm my lawn, landscape, or plants in the garden?
Here is an excellent article regarding white grubs from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension:

p.s. They do make great fish bait!

In the end a few grubs here and there is not enough to cause a problem. You will see lots of June Bugs now. These are the ones that are laying eggs that can cause damage to the lawn in late summer (late August thru September). A preventative insecticide on the lawn in late June thru July is effective at controlling them in most cases.

Timely post! I found one of these in my garden last weekend when planting tomato plants, and wondered if he'd eat try to eat the roots. I dug him up....but did not think of using him for fishing. I never knew grubs turned into "June bugs". Very good to know. Thanks for the blog and link. I enjoy the landscape and lawncare tips.
