SAVE ENERGY  

During Hot Weather:

 

-Close Shades On Sunny Windows

-Run Air Conditioner Only On Hot Days

-Use Circulating Fans

 

During Cold Weather:

 

-Open Shades On Sunny Windows, Be Sure To Close Them At Night

-Use A Humidifier (cooler indoor temperatures are more comfortable with the proper amount of humidity- 40%-50%)

-If Applicable, Keep Damper Closed On Fireplace When Not Using

-Use Portable Electric Heaters

 

Year Round:

 

 -Repair Leaky Faucets (a dripping hot water faucet causes the hot water heater to continue running)

-Close Off Unused Rooms

-Don’t Overload Appliances, Such As Washing Machine Or Dishwasher (try to use drying racks or clotheslines when possible)

-Install CFL Bulbs Where Necessary

-Diligently Turn Off Lights

-Install A Programmable Thermostat

 

SAVE MONEY

Freecycle.org – A ‘gift-givers’ site.  Everything is either given or taken for FREE!

 

Craigslist.org – Find cheap items in a variety of categories or simply check out the FREE section!

 

Other Simple Ways Of Saving Money Include:

 

-         Use Coupons-Take The Money You Saved (usually shown on bottom of receipt) And Deposit It Into A Savings Account

-         Walk, Bike Or Take The Bus Rather Than Driving Your Car

-         Bring Your Lunch To Work/School & Make Dinner At Home Instead Of Eating Out (try to plan your meal around the grocery store’s flyer)

-         Empty Pockets Into A Change Jar To Be Deposited Into A Savings Account

-         Make A Shopping List –And Stick To It
